DRM INFO:
Q: I've seen "Media: PDC (*PDF w/ DRM)" written next to BarCharts and High Court Case Summaries descriptions. What does this mean?
A PDC document is simply a PDF that has digital rights management (DRM) protection applied. We begin with a PDF, and the publishers of these series require that DRM technology be used to prevent
unauthorized viewing, copying, modifying, sharing, screen grabbing, saving, distribution, and printing of their products. When you open a PDC document to view it, you use a viewer provided by us that is very similar to Adobe Acrobat Reader. With this viewer, you can scroll through the document and zoom in or out. Currently, our publishers do not allow DRM-protected documents to be printed or copied. Questions? E-mail us at info@lawschooldownloads.com.
Q: What is DRM technology?
DRM, or Digital Rights Management, is a way that publishers can protect their intellectual property by preventing unauthorized viewing, copying, modifying, sharing, screen grabbing, saving, distribution, and printing of their products. Most products sold on LawSchoolDownloads.com can be printed; if printing is disabled, this will be noted on the product page.
Q: Which products that are sold on LawSchoolDownloads.com use DRM technology?
Any product that is sold in PDF format may use this technology. A product using this protection will have a note in the “Quick Overview” section on the product’s description page and will have an asterisk (*) next to the product title. You will also see an asterisk (*) next to the individual links that use this technology once you purchase a download using it.
Q: What happens when I purchase a PDF that is protected?
After your transaction is complete, you will receive an e-mail from info@lawschooldownloads.com with the subject “LockLizard Safeguard Secure PDF Viewer Registration”. This e-mail will contain a link to a PDF viewer, a link to a license, and instructions. Following the instructions, you will quickly download the viewer and click on the license link, and then you will be ready to enjoy your purchased PDFs! Just download your purchased PDFs from your LawSchoolDownloads.com account, and they will automatically open in the viewer window.
Q: If I have a Mac, what do I need to know?
Q: When I purchase a protected PDF, how many licenses do I receive?
In general, you will receive one license, which means you can download the viewer, register the license and view the files on one computer. If you have further questions regarding the number of licenses, you may contact us at info@lawschooldownloads.com.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How many times can I listen to the audio product that I purchased?
You own the mp3 files that you purchased, and you can listen to them as many times as you wish. You can listen to them on your computer, load them onto your iPod, etc.
Q: How many times can I view the PDF that I purchased?
You own the PDF that you purchased, and you may view it an unlimited number of times as you would view any other PDF. However, if your PDF uses DRM technology, you will have to use the licensed viewer to view the file, and the viewer may confirm your license every 30 days through an online connection.
Q: Why can't I print?
If you purchased a protected PDF that uses DRM, the publisher may have elected to disable printing to eliminate mass distribution of the product, and you may not be able to print copies. If a publisher does not allow printing, this will be stated on the product's individual page. Currently, the only products that cannot be printed are case briefs and BarCharts.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
Q: I purchased a DRM-protected PDF, but I did not receive a second e-mail with license information.
If you did not receive the e-mail with the viewer information, please check your spam and junk e-mail folders. If you use a program such as Outlook to receive your e-mails, please also check the spam/junk e-mail folders in your online e-mail program. Q: I purchased an audio product. How do I listen to it?
Follow these steps:
1. Log in to your LawSchoolDownloads.com account.
2. Go to My Account > My Downloadable Products.
3. Locate the order number and the title (link) of the file that you wish to download (you may also use the link(s) in the e-mail confirmation that you received from LawSchoolDownloads.com).
4. Click on the link, and a box will appear that gives you two options – (1) “Open with” or (2) "Save File". Click “Save File” and the file will download to the “downloads” area of your computer (e.g., “C:\Users\YourName\Downloads\[file name]”) or may give you an option to save the file where you choose. If you choose “Open with” before saving, each time you open the file this way, you will use one of your 3 download attempts.

5. Look in your e-mail inbox (using the e-mail address you used to log in to your LawSchoolDownloads.com account). You should have received an e-mail from “info@lawschooldownloads.com” with the subject “LockLizard Safeguard Secure PDF Viewer Registration”. Check your junk mail if you do not see it in your inbox. This e-mail should contain an attachment with the extension “.llv”. Sometimes the “.llv” file is contained within a zip file. The e-mail will have three subheadings – Installing the Viewer, Registering your License, and Viewing Protected Files.
>>Registering your License: Double-click on the attached license file (.llv) in your email application and select the Open option. This will register you with the publisher. If your email application does not let you open attachments, save the license file to disk and double-click on it to register. If you find that the .llv file has been renamed, corrupted, or is missing, then double-click on the attached zip file and double-click on the license file it contains.)
>>Viewing Protected Files: Once you have installed and registered the viewer you can view protected files. Double-click on one of your purchased files (protected files will have a .pdc extension, not a .pdf extension)
Q: I am a return customer, and with my second purchase of a protected PDF product, I did not receive an e-mail with the subject “LockLizard Safeguard Secure PDF Viewer Registration”.
If you have purchased a protected PDF product in the past and have registered your viewer, it will continue to work for future purchases as long as you use the same e-mail address when making your purchase. You will not have to register the viewer with each new purchase. Please do not remove your viewer and license file from your computer.
Q: I am a return customer, and I have removed my viewer and license file from my computer. How can I view future purchases?
You may either (1) make your next protected PDF purchase with a different e-mail address, which means that you will register a new viewer with a new license, or (2) contact LawSchoolDownloads.com at info@lawschooldownloads.com, and we may be able to retrieve your license file and send it to you.
Q: I’m still having trouble viewing protected files. Where can I look for help?
